The Byron Bay Japanese Community welcomes you
This website is mostly in Japanese language, and shares information about Japanese locals and their respective activities and local events. It also endeavors to strengthen cultural bridges between Japanese and non-Japanese people living in the Byron Bay area. Even if you cannot read and write Japanese, please send us an email if you seek to connect more deeply through cultural activities or other opportunities.
This site was launched in Spring 2016, primarily to share seasonal information and local news relevant to those who make up the Byron Bay Japanese Community. There are many unique and creative people living in Byron Bay area, Australia’s easternmost point, who are Japanese or have lived in or visited Japan. Whether they be Japanese by birth or interested people from other countries, many who have left Japan for Byron are now here in the same time and place, sharing similar experiences.
In September 2016, a new facebook page called Byron Bay Japanese Community was set up to complement this website. As of Tuesday 27th September, there is also a monthly Japanese radio show on Byron Bay FM from 1pm to 2pm every fourth Tuesday of the month.
The creation and maintenance of the website, social media and radio show are all volunteer activities which operate without sponsorship or financial backing to offer a valuable community service here in Byron Shire.
We aim to provide an open community network for locals who have lived here for many long years, new settlers, visiting students, working holiday adventurers, independent travelers and others who have a strong connection with or interest in Japanese culture.
With deep appreciation for such warm connections, may all the people involved in this community feel love and hope
as we cultivate a fun bright future together hand in hand.
